1. Introduction

Welcome to MessageMirror. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy will inform you about how we look after your personal data when you use our app and tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you.

2. Information We Process

MessageMirror processes your data exclusively on your device. We never collect, store, or access your information on our servers. When you enable backups, your data is securely encrypted and transferred directly from your device to your Google account: your text messages and call logs to Google Calendar, without passing through our systems.

Data Collection and Processing

The app processes the following types of data:

  • Messages: SMS text, sender or recipient, and timestamps. MMS (picture messages) is not backed up. This data is only used to create backup events in your Google Calendar.
  • Your calendar list: The names of the calendars you own, so you can choose where texts and calls go. If you ask, the app creates a new calendar with a name you pick. We use nothing else from your calendars.
  • Call Logs: Phone numbers, call duration, timestamps, and call type, saved as Google Calendar events when backup is enabled.
  • Contacts: With your permission the app looks up the name for a phone number in your phone's contacts, so backups show a name instead of a number. The lookup happens on your phone. The name is written only into the Calendar event in your own Google account.
  • Device Information: Your phone's model and Android version go into the backup log on your phone to help with troubleshooting. If you tap Send debug logs, the app opens your email app with a message to us. The file lists your phone model, Android version, settings and backup counts. It contains no message text, numbers or names. Nothing is sent unless you send it.
  • Backup Operation Logs: Maintained on your device with timestamps, operation status, and item counts. Automatically deleted after 30 days.

Analytics

The MessageMirror app has no analytics or crash reporting. On this website we use Google Analytics, but only after you press Accept All in the cookie banner. If you reject, close the banner or never choose, Google Analytics does not load.

Important: We never track, log, or transmit the content of your messages, contacts, or call logs. Your private communications remain strictly private.

3. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used exclusively to provide the following services:

  • Back up your text messages and call logs to your own Google Calendar (the app does not restore them onto a phone)
  • Create one calendar event for each text and each call, in the calendar you choose for texts and the calendar you choose for calls (they can be the same one)
  • Check whether an event already exists so nothing is saved twice
  • Monitor and log backup operations for reliability and troubleshooting

All processing in the app occurs locally on your device or directly between your device and Google's secure servers. We do not access, collect, or store your personal data on our servers through the app.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal identification information or message content to others.

4. Google API Disclosure

MessageMirror's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

The app asks Google for these permissions:

  • Google Calendar (see, edit, share and permanently delete all calendars): Used to list your calendars, create the calendar you ask for, and add and update the events for your texts and calls. We never delete or share anything and never read events other than the ones we wrote.
  • Your email address and basic profile: Used to show which Google account is signed in.

We only request the permissions necessary to implement the app's core functionality: backing up your text messages and call logs to Google Calendar. We do not use these permissions for any other purpose, such as advertising or market research.

6. Data Security

Your data's security is our top priority. We implement the following measures:

  • Encrypted in transit with HTTPS
  • Local data storage with Android's secure app sandboxing
  • Automatic deletion of operation logs after 30 days
  • No server-side storage of your personal data by us
  • Data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable backups to your own Google account

7. Your Data Rights

You have full control over your data:

Access and Control

  • View and Manage Data: Access and manage your data through the app's interface, such as viewing logs or settings.
  • Backup Control: Enable or disable backups at any time in the app settings.
  • Revoke Access: You can revoke MessageMirror's access to your Google Account at any time via your Google Account Security settings.

Who can see your backed-up events

Each event is saved as private, so only you can see its details. If you share the calendar you chose, or give someone full access to it, they can see what is in it. Keep that calendar unshared if you want to be the only reader.

Data Deletion

  • Local Data: Uninstalling the app will remove all locally stored configuration and logs from your device.
  • Backed-up Data: Data in your Google Account remains under your control. You can delete backed-up texts and calls in Google Calendar, one event at a time or by deleting the whole calendar.

8. Payments and Subscriptions

MessageMirror may offer paid subscriptions or one-time purchases via the Google Play Store.

  • Processing: All payments are processed securely by Google Play. We do not collect or store your credit card or financial information.
  • Management: You can manage your subscriptions, including cancellations, directly through the Google Play Store app on your device.

9. Compliance with Laws

We comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you are a resident of California or the European Economic Area, you have the right to request access to and deletion of your personal data. The app stores none of your data on our servers. For anything you sent us through this website, email us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy and, for significant changes, by placing a prominent notice within the app.

11. This Website

When you use messagemirror.app we handle a little data, separate from the app:

  • Contact form: Your name, email and message. We save them and email them to our inbox so we can reply. We keep them until we have dealt with your question, and delete them if you ask.
  • Newsletter: Your email address, if you tick the box on the contact form to get product updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Feedback page: What you write, plus a name and email only if you choose to add them. Votes are anonymous: your browser keeps a random ID so one press counts once, and we store a scrambled form of your network address to stop abuse. We read everything, and we may publish an idea on our public roadmap without your name or email. We delete your feedback if you ask.
  • Spam protection: We use Cloudflare Turnstile on the contact and feedback forms, and Cloudflare hosts the site.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics, only after you press Accept All in the cookie banner.
